The snowy river is one of the big rivers of Australia and it flows in the south-eastern parts of the continent. The river originates from the base of Mount Kosciuszko and empties into the Bass Strait. The river was once bustling but is now flowing to only 1 percent of its limit due to the building of damns. It has many tributaries which include: the Mowamba River, Wullwye Creek, Maclaughlin, Delegate, Jacobs, Pinch, Deddick, Buchan, Rodger and Brodribb Rivers.

Mount Kosciuszko is located in the range called the snowy mountains and hence the river which originates from this mountain is named the snowy river.
