on Aug 6, 2009"Root canal" is basically the term used to describe the natural cavity within the center of the tooth. This treatment is for repair of an infected tooth without taking it out. When tooth get infected its nerve tissue start damaging, & with passage of time it gets week & break down but to which germs get spread within the pulp chamber. Now what happened in root canal is that damage nerve is taken out 7 the space created is sealed from inside. If root canal is not done on time the infection will spread till end of roots. And this infection can cause swelling that may spread to the face, neck, or head .Bone loss surrounding the tip of the root. Drainage problems. A hole might occur through the side of the infected place which gives way to the drainage into gums & thus as a result other teeth’s can also get infection. If a person notices severe toothache pain on chewing or long term sensitivity to hot or cold temperature, darkening of the tooth, swelling in the gums then he should go for the root canal. While doing a root canal dentist first take an X-ray of the infected tooth. In order to see the shape. Then local anesthesia to numb will be given. Then for keeping the infected area free of saliva a rubber dam is placed. A hole is then drilled. Then the pulp with bacteria and the damage nerves will be removed. Water or sodium hypochlorite is used periodically to flush away the damage fragments. Once the process is finished the tooth is sealed. Some dentists seal the drill placed on same day while other prefer to wait for a week or two. To see, if an infection might occur, they can put some medicine inside. Root canal is a painful but effective process. The most painful part is drilling and then filling the infected place. In start after the treatment, patient can fell irritation or pain at the treated place it’s because of natural tissue inflammation but it’s not for long time. This sensitivity or discomfort usually can be controlled with pain killers such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) or naproxen (Aleve). Root canal treatment is highly useful & successful; the procedure has more than a 95% of positive result. Teethes that are fixed by this process last for long time period. |
