Dengue fever can be called the flu like illness that spreads by biting of the infected mosquito. The mosquito which spread the dengue fever is called Aedes mosquito. This virus spread when the mosquito bites the infected person and then bites the healthy person. This disease is mostly common in the tropical areas of the world. The mosquitoes that transmit dengue virus mostly breed in discarded tires, flower pots, old oil drums and water storage container. Dengue mosquitoes do not attack at night like malaria mosquito. It bites during the day.

In start of the Dengue fever person may have a fever, headache, pain behind the eyes and pain in muscles and joints. Dengue fever is also called as break bone fever. Some other sign of having dengue fever is nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite. The dengue fever can take up to 10 days to last. Complete recovery might be as long as month. In most cases dengue illness can result in mild illness. But in sever cases it can result in hemorrhagic fever. Hemorrhagic fever is a condition in which the blood vessel starts to leak and this may result in bleeding from mouth, nose and gums. If proper and on time treatment is not done it might result in collapse of vessel causing shock. The symptoms of dengue virus start with in 4 to 6 days after the bite of the mosquito. Infected person cannot spread the infection to healthy person, but he/she can be source of dengue virus for mosquito. It can be diagnose through blood test. There is no specific treatment for this virus. Infected person should try to take good rest. He/ she should increase the intake of the fluids. Patient should be kept away from mosquito. In sever cases transfusion is done to stop bleeding. There is no specific vaccine for dengue virus. For the prevention of the dengue fever the mosquito bite should be avoided. Mosquito repellents should be used. Bed nets should be used while sleeping to avoid mosquito bites. Effort should be made to reduce mosquito breeding sites. This could be done by changing water regularly in outdoors birds bath and pets and animals water container.
