on Jun 25, 2009The manual system of any organization is greatly dependent on the processing speed and capacity of human beings. Furthermore humans are prone to emotions which severely limit their working capacity at certain times while enhancing it on others. People can also try to cause deliberate harm to a system if effective checks are not in place to ward against them. Another thing regarding the manual processing is that man has the working capacity limited to a certain extent as he has limited working hours and other limitations as well. Almost all organizations at one point or the other face these limitations of manual systems thereby increasing the awareness of the management and organizations to port to computer systems that are better suited for the workloads and are less prone to error if programmed and managed correctly. Computers are operated by human beings, so they are as good as the operators themselves. The advantage of a computerized system over a manual one becomes obvious when the system is designed in such a way that human errors are not allowed to creep into the system making it ideal for day to day flawless operations. Effective controls can limit if not eliminate the chances of errors. Besides a machine never tires of a routine job as long as it is plugged in. The development in the field of science and technology has improved the efficiency of data processing mechanisms. These mechanisms allow a small team of persons to do what previously required the time and efforts of dozens. These mechanisms are developed for the ease and benefit of human beings and are not for a specific field and purpose. They are beneficial for mankind in many different ways. Their impact can be felt in every aspect of life. Any organization should weigh the cost/benefit ratios before it makes the decision to switch any system with another. The foremost consideration when switching from a manual system to a computerized one is the hype of fast and accurate processing of data and generation of output that is both reliable and timely. “Computerizing is justified if the processing of data is more than three times the manual one”. |
