It is the common concept that gum diseases are caused at old age only. But this concept is wrong teenagers can also get gum disease. In medical terminology gum disease is called Periodontal. Periodontal is basically the tissue and bone disease which affect teeth. If gum diseases are not properly treated its results can be very serious. One can even loose the teeth if proper treatment is not taken. Other problems that one can face because of gum disease are bad breath and toothache.

If you do not take care of your teeth, the teeth get covered with a sticky layer of germs, which is called Plaque. It is plaque which causes the gum diseases. Plaques have the bacteria which produce a toxin. And that toxins cause damage to the gums and teeth. Gum diseases progress in different stages. If one have problem of gum bleeding while cleaning teeth. It is the sign of presence of mild form of gum disease. Bleeding gum means presence of gingivitis. Gingivitis is inflation of gums around the root of the teeth. If the plaque of the gum is not removed on time by daily cleaning teeth, then with the passage of time it get hard and change into calculus or tartar. Tatar is more dangerous for gums. Once teeth have tartar, it destroys the gum tissues and cause Periodontitis. Periodontitis makes the gum week and make the space around the gums. The bacteria get into these space and cause more damage to gums. If peritonitis remains for long time period it can even cause damage to the jawbone. Which support teeth. Once periodontitis spread it become difficult to control it. Dentist makes different treatment for periodontitis. Sometime deep cleaning is done to remove tartar from above and below gum line. This process of deep cleaning is called Scaling or root planning. Some dentists give antibiotic with scaling to get over with periodontitis. These antibiotics can be in different form. They range from mouthwash to antibiotic gels or fibers that are placed in gums, to kill germs. If periodontitis is very old surgeries are also made. In surgery dentist open the damaged parts of gum clean it and then stitch it back. In more sever case the dentist remove healthy gum tissue and stitch it into damage gum.

To avoid gum disease one should brush their teeth twice a day for at least 3 minutes. Toothpaste having fluoride should be use. Soft toothbrush should be use. Healthy diet should be taken. Regular dental care is very important for healthy teeth.
