The story is well known of how Philemon and Baucis after showing warm hospitality to Jove and Mercury asked as a reward to be allowed to die together. Long after, they ended their lives at the same moment and were changed into an oak and a lime tree.

The daughters of the Sun watched as their brother, Phaethon, drove the carriage belonging to his father the Sun along the roads of the sky. They saw how, Phaethon went too near the earth almost scorching it. They wept when a thunderbolt from Jove struck Phaethon and their teardrops fell and turned into amber and the sisters themselves into poplar trees.

The child Cyparissus loved a stag which had golden antlers and a silver ornament on its brow. One hot summer afternoon while the stag rested, the boy mistook it for an ordinary animal and killed it. When he saw what he had done he could not stop weeping and Apollo turned him into a cypress tree.
