Anemia is a condition in which the number of hemoglobin gets low in a body. Level of hemoglobin is measured through blood test. Blood test will show whether the red blood cells have unusual shape, color or size. Person having iron deficiency will have paler and smaller red blood cells, as compared to the healthy person. It is one of the most common disorders of the blood. Types of anemia are divided into three groups.

Excessive blood loss anemia.
In this type of anemia the patient loses blood, which result in loss of hemoglobin. Long term bleeding can cause reduction in blood count. Excessive blood loss anemia is caused due to stomach ulcer, gastritis, regular blood donation, cancer of stomach etc.

Excessive red blood cell destruction anemia
A red blood cell lives for about 110-120 days. After this duration the red blood cell break down and is removed by spleen. There are some illnesses which cause red blood cells to die early. Due to this bone marrow has to produce more red blood cells then normal. If the rate of production of red blood cells do not keep up with the rate it die, the red blood count will fall causing hemolysis. The main causes of the hemolysis are the infections, Immune reactions and toxins.

Deficient red blood cells production anemia
In this type of anemia the body does not produce enough red blood cells. And if in case red blood cells are produce then they do not function well. People with this type of anemia can have sickle cell anemia. Sickle cell anemia is an inherited blood disorder which cause red blood cell to have a crescent shape. Due to this they break down early. People having Deficient red blood cells production anemia may not have sufficient iron. This deficiency of iron may be due to poor diet, blood loss and an inability to absorb iron from food. This defect may be due to problem in bone marrow. Because blood cells are produce by bone marrow.
